Something unusual that happened that day

I am pretty certain that there have been quite a series of unusual events occurring these days. Well, for me at least, my experience was probably the most unusual one has ever been through. For thirteen years, I never knew the true side of my own mother. It may seem banal and not that interesting to those reading this right now but like said, experience justifies everything. Obviously to me, my mother’s character that evening did not cease to amuse me.

My mother had always seemed very anti-social to me. The kind who never mingled. Phone calls for her were rarely noticed. She barely even spoke to her own son, which was none other than myself. “Mum why don’t you like to go out for parties, dinners, movies and have fun?” The number of times I had repeated this question to her was an eternity to her ears, always fuelling to her posture which was not that of repose but agitation and anxiety. Her response would be nothing more than a stare and an irritated look.

It may seem macabre, but I had always wanted my mother to mingle more. One of the reasons was the fear of her wanting me to go on the same path. Well I was completely the opposite, I just never showed it. The thought of her nagging at me was already more than enough to annoy me.

I was doing my homework that day when it seemed to me that a large group of people broke in the house, blasting music and singing. It was more like noise to my ears. As the thought of it being a figment of my imagination or probably a zoo, sprang up, I ran to the living room to see what had happened. My jaw dropped. It literally dropped.

I stared at the crowd of old aunties barging in the house dancing. There were no less than 50 people if I recall correctly. My mother was the last to enter. She was jumping. The shock which struck me was no less than that of someone suffering from a heart attack. My mother skipped towards me. “Son! Meet them! My friends!” Amused at her statement, I smiled a fake one. She then carried on confessing that she actually sneaked out at night to visit them and that she would be bringing them over every day from then on. My dad was also aware of it all along.

Thoughts which were once a delusion actually came true in the form of a hard slap across my face. I knew that I have to tolerate these aunties from that day onwards. My mother would also not sneak out anymore and she would actually go out more often. That was the plus point. However, what actually occurred to me the most was that my mother actually sneaked out and that she mingles. I found it really unusual. Well as a recount, I hope those who read this actually found it bizarre too! It might have sounded raw and silly but it did to me too when I actually found out what a weird family I actually lived with.

I would suggest from now on that you do not spend too much time thinking about one’s inner character and self as you never know what they might turn out to be like!
